East London, the coastal town in the Eastern Cape, has emerged as the favourite destination for this year’s festive season.
This period means different things for different people and we are here to determine whether Khaya Dlanga was onto something when he started the conversation that has been trending for days now.
For the older South Africans, the festive season is the break they have been working towards the whole year. While some take this time to go on vacations or visit relatives in other parts of the world, many of young South Africa see the festive season as the chance to party it up.
The question that has come to the fore now is, which city holds the title as the best festive season destination in South Africa.
For the longest time, people from all over South Africa would flock to Cape Town for the festive season, all the way through March of the next year (to attend the Jazz Fest).
This will stand to be contested for sure this festive season after one of South Africa’s most popular influencers, Khaya Dlanga, declared that East London is the capital city of the festive season.

Things to do in East London
We thought we should take the time to delve into this bold claim and find out what it is that makes East London the better festive season destination than the longtime holder of that title – Cape Town.
Beaches in East London
A coastal city, much like Cape Town, East London boasts some of the best beaches in the country. Surfers travel from all parts of the country to surf the waves of the ocean at Bonza Bay and Nahoon Beach.
Food Markets in East London
A city that is regarded as the capital city of fun would be a fraud if it was not known for its food or flee markets. Luckily for our East Londoners, that is one of the things the coastal city is known for.
Crowds gather at markets to enjoy some of the best food East London has to offer. Places like the Craft and Farmer’s Market in Morgan Bay and Tea in the Trees in Chintsa West fill up with people who mingle over good music, food and drinks.
Nightlife in East London
This, we believe, was the biggest determinant in Dlanga’s argument. East London is famously known as the city that never sleeps during the festive season.
We may just have to wait and see which city goes into 2019 with the loudest bang. Of course, the most important thing in enjoying the festive season is to always ensure that you practice safety and responsibility.
